Blown 346
This is to fix the noisy climate control fan in the headlinear. Tools needed... Pick Small flathead Lubricating spray 1. First you will have to remvoe the fans grill from the headlinear. To do this use your finger nails and pull down. You will have to continue all the way around the fan to get it the grill out. Dont yank on it as you will break the plastic tabs. The fan assembly is held in place by the grill, the grill acts a wedge inbetween the headlinear. 2. Open both doors and pull down the rubber door molding. 3. There is velcro that helps hold the headlinear in place, you will have to remove this. The velcro is right behind the door hinge at the roof. Gently pull the velcro apart with both hands. Otherwise you can pull the velcro right off the top of the headlinear and then it could sag. Turn the little vecro bracket to the side so if it re attaches its easy to pull apart. 4. You will have to pull the headlinear down a bit with one hand and grab the fan assembly with the other. Once you hae the assembly pull it toward you as far as it will go. You will have to turn the fan on it side to access the connector. Grab your pic or flat head and pry up on the plastic locking tab and slide the connector out. You can remove the entire fan assembly, it might not be easy as it will get wedged between the roof and headlinear. 5. You will have to remove the outer case of the fan assembly. There are 3 locking tabs on the unit that have to be released. I found the easiest way is with the pick or small flat head. The easiets way is to go in on the top of the unit where there is the small gaps on either side of the unit shown in pic 2. 6. Once the top half is removed you have to be careful of the sensor. You will have to bend it up to remove the fan. 7. Flip it over and you will see 3 black round tabs. Use your finger nail and just push, the fan will come out of the case. 8. The fan itself is held in place by a magnetic base. Just pull the fan out. 9. You will want to use a good lubricant like WD 40 or I use this. You can find it at Home Depot or Lowes for $5 a can. It works great and doesnt attratc dirt or dust. It lasts forever. 10. Spray the shaft down with whatever lube you choose and replace the fan on the unit. 11. Do the reverse and put everything back together. Make sure that sensor you bent up, is bent back down once the fan is re installed so you dont break it when the cover goes back on. You should have no more noise. Edited March 8, 2012 by Blown 346 (see edit history)

Willoverkill
Im gonna do this! I cant count the times Ive punched at the thing to shut it up for a few minutes! All that needs to be done is some lube on that shaft?
Blown 346
Most of the time lubricating the shaft will quiet it down. Sometimes you just need a whole new unit, fan and computer board. If I remember right you can get them for about $25 from the dealer.

EXGM
Nice how-to man! I just cross my fingers I don't ever encounter that problem though lolSuper common problem. At some point every truck of this generation will need a new asperator. Made a lot of money replacement them when I worked at a dealer. Anyone know the part number for that fan? And does it come with the grill piece? Wanting to do a retrofit. It's called an aspirator. I just bought one to replace my noisy one. I picked up one off of rock auto for under 23 bucks. Seems like a lot of work to clean one. I would spend the money and replace IMHO. Edited June 28, 2015 by EXGM (see edit history)
