Need Help On Specs Of 2wd Rear Axle

Recommended Posts

i need a new rear axle and I wanted to make sure I had the factory specs correct before i went searching for a new one. I have a 2005 SS 2WD it has a 14 bolt 9.5" with a 3.73 ratio and 33 spline 6 lug axles. If I am incorrect on any of this please let me know! If anyone has any advice on where to find one around Atlanta or opinions on instaling a different axle do tell!

THANKS

Does a 14 bolt silverado ss axel a semi floter or full floter?

Is it disc brak or drum?

What GM trucks came with this axel for 6 lug? Planning on getting a 14 bolt for my 2wd clone ISS.

It's definitely not a full floater those only came on the HDs. I'm not sure if it's a semi float I think it's more a hybrid. In 2006 they went back to drums on the rear, actually in mid 05. I think the only trucks that came with the 14 bolt were the SS and trucks with the Vortec Max package.

I been doing a search all day I found they are semi float and they are 14 bolt 9.5" 33 spline 6 lug axle that came in 2wd ss and vortec max package. All I found is brum brake not disc not 100% sure. I found out 07+ vortec max have same axel with disc brake.

I think they were also available as a part of the "tow package" separate from the SS and v-max, but I've never seen one so equipped. All your other research looks correct. If your buying on from a salvage yard, make sure to get a pic. Lots of places have them mis-inventoried, thinking tow hitch = tow package. Good news is, they never go bad, and fit very few trucks, so they are reasonably priced usually.
