GM'S FAMILY OF TRUCKS OFFERS HUGE CANVAS OF CUSTOMIZATION OPPORTUNITIES

Las Vegas - Over the last couple of years, GM has established itself as the undisputed industry leader in trucks. GM's total truck volume is up 11 percent this year and remains on pace to establish a new industry truck sales benchmark. GM truck momentum continues to build, with the introduction this year of the all-new HUMMER H2, Saturn VUE, redesigned Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra, and more.

Demonstrating that GM is serious about sustaining truck leadership with "gotta-have" new products, GM is showing a range of customized and performance-based trucks at the 2002 Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show, Nov. 5-8 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.

"GM has the broadest and deepest family of trucks, ranging from small to big, sporty to family-oriented and commuter to commercial," said Gary Cowger, president of GM North America. "Our lineup of Chevy and GMC trucks offers a huge canvas of customization opportunities."

SEMA offerings

To demonstrate this potential, GMC has developed a series of lifestyle vehicles in partnership with Home Depot that largely cater to homeowners who avidly pursue do-it-yourself weekend projects. These vehicles carry the Home Depot logo:

The Envoy Project Pro takes the family-oriented Envoy and transforms it into a home-improvement workhorse, capable of hauling big cargo and equipment for renovations and remodeling.

Full-size luxury takes on brawn and utility with the Yukon Outdoor Living Pro, which tackles outdoor projects such as deck improvements with ease.

The Sierra Landscaper Pro makes short work of various backyard projects, with integrated components and accessories to accommodate things like yard equipment, bags of soil and potted plants.

And as the sole GMC entry dedicated to the commercial market, the Savana Installer Pro is outfitted with numerous devices and contraptions designed to make an electrician's job easy.

Also at SEMA, Chevy will show several of its upcoming SS trucks, created by GM's new Performance Division and slated for production over the next several years. The Chevy trucks at SEMA explore the legendary SS philosophy in different ways:

The brawny Tahoe SS shows the performance of a full-size SUV.

The lean, mean regular-cab Silverado SS is a stripped-down, souped-up street machine designed to exploit the engine's available power.

The TrailBlazer SS, with its 345-hp 6.0-liter V-8 engine, harkens back to a long line of powerful mid-size SS cars that captured checkered flags on the track and bragging rights on the street.

The GMC show trucks are an expression of GMC's imagination, innovation, and capability, while Chevy's SS trucks represent a commitment to performance and the enthusiast market.

Other GM truck highlights at SEMA include the Cadillac ESV Platinum and EXTM, the HUMMER H2 Upscale Performance, and the Saturn VUE Active Expression.

Cadillac ESV Platinum displays the customization potential of the new Escalade ESV full-size luxury SUV and features a unique Tri-Coat paint process that contribute to the vehicle's out-of-the-park aesthetics.

Featured in the upcoming second and third installments of the "Matrix" futuristic adventure films, the Cadillac EXTM luxury ultimate utility vehicle brings the future of ultimate luxury driving to the present.

The HUMMER H2 Upscale Performance packs a whopping 450 horsepower, but conceals its muscle under a host of luxurious exterior and interior amenities.

Featuring a standout Light Yellow paint scheme, the Saturn VUE Active Expression is a limited-edition production vehicle that features some of the special retailer-installed equipment and accessories available for Saturn's new compact SUV.

Performance Division Input

From the Chevy SS high-performance models to the work-friendly GMC Pro vehicles, the customized trucks and SUVs at SEMA were developed in cooperation with GM's newly formed Performance Division. Charged with developing unique vehicles for performance and specialty markets, the Performance Division worked with GM's brands to design the targeted vehicles on display. Some are concepts while others, such as the 2003 Chevy Silverado Extended Cab SS, are production models.

"The trucks and SUVs at SEMA show the breadth of the Performance Division's capabilities," said Mark Reuss, GM Performance Division executive director. "We're not just about adding horsepower; the Performance Division is committed to helping GM's brands develop special vehicles for any market requirement."

Production trucks

In 2002, GMC and Chevy Truck continued the momentum on the production side with the redesigned 2003 Sierra and Silverado, significant upgrades to all full-size utilities, expanded availability of GM's exclusive Quadrasteer four-wheel steering system and StabiliTrak, the debut of seven-passenger midsize utilities, the all-new HUMMER H2, medium-duty trucks and full-size vans.

2003 highlights

And for 2003, GM's full-size pickup lineup benefits from a long list of improvements. They include a passenger-sensing air bag system, advanced electrical architecture, modified instrument panel with a new driver information center, new steering wheel controls, new center console, the first industry application of a Bose audio system in a full-size pickup truck, a new rear-seat entertainment system and manual and fully automatic dual-zone climate control systems.

For 2003, Silverado shares a common design between the light-duty and heavy-duty models, while creating a family resemblance with Avalanche and TrailBlazer. Sierra also has a common design between light and heavy duty while creating a family resemblance to Envoy in a front-end treatment inspired by the Terradyne, Terracross and Terra4 concept trucks.

Across the lineup

As GM moves aggressively to build on its leadership in full-size trucks, almost all of the 2002 upgrades to GM's full-size pickups have been extended across the entire family of full-size trucks in 2003 - including the Chevrolet Tahoe/Suburban, GMC Yukon/Yukon XL sport-utility vehicles, and the Chevy Avalanche and Cadillac Escalade EXT ultimate utility vehicles. For 2003, these vehicles receive interior refinements similar to the Silverado and Sierra. Additionally, StabiliTrak, electrical adjustable pedals and second-row bucket seats are available.

Also in 2003, the Cadillac Escalade ESV, the largest full-size luxury SUV available, makes its debut.

Commercial trucks

GM's new medium duty trucks for 2003, the Chevrolet Kodiak and GMC TopKick, feature numerous commercial market innovations. These trucks offer best-in-class maneuverability and visibility, an expanded powertrain lineup, advanced chassis and braking systems, improved ride and handling and increased comfort and safety. This summer, GM continued its aggressive launch of new commercial trucks with a new line of full-size vans built with never-seen-before innovations designed to help users get the job done right.

"As we build on our terrific family of trucks, we plan to continue moving fast to market with innovative, distinctive products across all segments that exceed customer expectations," said Cowger.
